Brief
For the launch of the new AFL ground at Blacktown Olympic Park, Audio Visual Events were charged with transforming the practice nets of the new complex into a luncheon space for 450 delegates through the use of audio visual and lighting. With the new building still under construction, various hurdles had to be overcome, not least a large amount of ambient light throughout the space resulting in screen presentations being difficult to see. Power was also still being connected within the venue, drastically lowering the amount of power available for use. Having so many participants within such a large area meant a solution was needed to cover the area with a suitable PA system that drew a minimum of power.
Solution
Looking at the event from all angles, Project Manager Dan Bergan settled upon the idea of using large format plasma monitors. Six of these were mounted on 3m high vertical truss along the front of the room to counter the ambient light factor and adequately display presentations to all in attendance. To match the decor of the room the truss upon which the plasmas were mounted were dressed up in white lycra socks, making the screens appear to be a natural part of the surrounds. In addition, the use of multiple small self powered speakers scattered about the room meant that enough audio coverage was supplied using the least amount of power possible.
Using the latest in lighting technology, we were once again able to utilise high brightness low wattage lighting to save on power. LED lights were also used for room dressing and impact. Using all these techniques, with the aid of more Green-efficient equipment, Audio Visual Events delivered yet another successful event.
