Brief

The City of Sydney Council staged a progress report on it's "2030 Sustainable Sydney" initiative. As this event was dedicated to showing off the council's green credentials, Audio Visual Events was charged with employing the smallest energy footprint possible in producing the event.

Solution

With energy and carbon efficiency in mind Audio Visual Events set out to select the least power hungry equipment for the task. Most of the savings came from the use of energy efficient LED lighting. If conventional lighting was used, the equipment would draw over 18,000W of power, equating to 288kW for the whole two day event. Through the use of LED lighting, Audio Visual Events was able to cut this to just 96kWh with the equipment only drawing 6,000W of power, a massive 66.6% cut in power usage. The remainder of the energy was offset by the use of carbon credits which made the whole event carbon neutral.

The LED lights selected for use were the Martin Mac 301s, Tri colour Par 64 LED parcans and LED strip lights. Combining with the modern stage design and multi-media presentations, these lights made for a striking appearance in the spectacular Victorian architecture of the Sydney Town hall.
